Though Grant + Mackenzie went to high school together, it wasn’t until college that they began dating. In her words, “Grant went to Auburn however and I was at FSU so we didn’t think anything serious would come of it. It wasn’t until the Auburn-FSU college football championship when Grant came to come stay with me in Los Angeles that we really decided we were going to move forward with things. I moved to Atlanta a couple months later where we did long distance for a year and then decided to go big or go home and move to Destin to be with him!”
It’s amazing how social media keeps us connected, you know? Over the last decade or so, facebook has become a way of staying in each other’s lives. I am especially grateful for that because through it, she thought of us to photograph their wedding! When we met up to talk wedding details at Grant’s family’s restaurant, Dewey Destin’s Harbor-side, I’m pretty sure all we did was laugh, smile, and nod our heads because everything was so wonderfully done, it was almost unbelievable. Not only was everything organized, they really took into consideration who we are as their wedding photographers and took care of us. Anyone who knows her can testify to her kindness and generosity. Mackenzie and Grant are two of the sweetest, most relaxed people we’ve worked with and their wedding was a true celebration of their love. She is one of those brides every photographer dreams of, and Grant is a go-with-the-flow kind of guy.
One of the dozens of things that we loved so much about their wedding day was the family-dynamic brought into it. It was really special to have the wedding at his family’s restaurant, but not only that, the closeness in the two of their families was a blessing to be around. Mackenzie’s father passed away when she was a young girl, and she had the most beautiful charm hanging from her bouquet with his picture. There were so many details that made their wedding intimate and personal. And then their friends from school was just a whole new level of fun for us. If you have the opportunity, a live band on your wedding day is amazing. Between Tim Tyler’s piano playing and their guest’s love for a good dance party, the night was non-stop and incredibly fun!
